[Tacoma] The IYF Fundraising Event & Infosession in support of the World Camp at UCLA June 30, 2010

On June 19, IYF Tacoma Center held the IYF Fundraising Event & Infosession in support of the World Camp at UCLA this August. About 30 new people drove through a rain to attend the event. Many college students who have been connected recently and friend and family members of brothers and sisters all showed up to make the event much more significant.

On top of that, the fact that it was the first time American sisters mainly organized an event added more meaning to the event and grace to our hearts.

“Where God works, Satan works as well,” just like that word, we faced some difficulty when we were preparing for the event.

The Samoan group who promised to come and perform their cultural dances at the event cancelled on us two days prior to the date. Their sudden back out could have hindered the show, but the IYF Tacoma students united their hearts and prepared alternative dances in prayers.

At the event, though we were lacking God helped us to perform in grace. The attendees had their biggest smile on their faces during the performances and opened their hearts wide.

After the performance, we had a time to watch IYF and GoodNews Corps introduction video.

Those video helped the attendees to be more familiar with the organization IYF and GoodNews Corps program.

After the videos, we had another performance by the students, and Pastor Kab Taig Lim, the IYF director of Tacoma region, gave a welcoming speech.

Pastor Lim introduced IYF saying, “IYF opens the new path for the young men and women through its core values – challenge, cohesion, and change,” and briefly preached the Gospel. The attendees sincerely took heed of the message.

A delicious dinner that American and Korean sisters prepared with all their hearts followed after.

Everyone at the event appreciated and enjoyed the foods.

While the attendees were having dinner, all of sudden the mini culture took them to the world tour.

At the IYF Booth, the guide mainly promoted the World Camp which will be held at University of California, Los Angeles this summer. Meanwhile, the representatives of many countries like Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Russia, etc, had a time to introduce their countries in the traditional outfit. Being fascinated, the attendees could not hide their amazement and excitement.

When we finished all the programs, the friends and family members, who had no or other beliefs, said in chorus that they opened their hearts to Good News Mission and IYF. We were very thankful to God.

Through this event, we were able to experience God who has always been with us.

Also the American sisters gained hope to be continuously used for the works of the Gospel instead of living a life for themselves, and the Korean brothers and sisters were happy to volunteer and pour their hearts for the Gospel.

We are very hopeful and grateful in faith that God will continuously work for IYF Tacoma region and will bless the World Camp at UCLA.

Praise the Lord. But I have one question: Are you suggesting that the Samoan group who cancelled their performance are possessed by Satan? Thanks.

I was not suggesting anything at all. Just narrating what happened as we prepared the event. The only purpose of this news/article is to praise the work God has done for us, nothing more or less. Thanks. And I'd like to invite you to the IYF World Camp at UCLA as well.

Thanks for the invitation. Unfortunately, I'm not based in LA.

I still don't see a connection between Satan and the Samoan group. If you could please explain, I'd be very thankful.

Julia, the connection you are seeing between Satan and the Samoan group was not intended in the way you are perceiving.  The fact is that Satan is always at work, whether it be through other people or in our hearts.  I doubt there is anyone who willingly allows Satan to work in our lives, and if we as humans are able to see when Satan is at work, we would actively try to avoid being used by Satan.  But since Satan always works unknowingly through deception we are unable to fight against his work on our own.  That is why we need God to fight that battle for us.
The Samoan group not attending was an unfortunate event.  Their culture is fascinating and they truly know how to entertain.  I am sure their absence was difficult for the organizers of the event given the timing.  Satan will often work through situations to discourage us from praising the Lord and spreading the Gospel.  I think the true message behind the statement was that not even Satan was able to stop the event as the IYF members were able to unite their hearts and ultimately hold a successful event.

D, thank you so much for your explanation. So, just to confirm whether I understood it right: The Samoan group decided to cancel their attendance. This itself is not Satan, right? Satan comes in when we get discouraged by this and think that the event fails, right?

One more question: You say that we as humans are able to see when Satan is at work. But then you say that Satan always works unknowingly. How does this match? If Satan works unknowingly, how can we see Satan at work? Thanks.

typo.  I meant to say that humans are unable to see or know when Satan is at work.  That is because he works through our own thoughts and feelings.  The moment we begin to believe in our own thoughts and take responsibility for our actions, that is when we are the most vulnerable to Satan.  The only way for God to increase, is when we decrease.  As Apostle Paul put it, I was crucified with Christ...and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  All we have to do it believe in the first part (I no longer live).  And the second part (Christ lives in me) naturally follows.  Because He loves us.

Regarding your first question...I do not know why the Samoan group cancelled.  So I cannot speak to the cause of the situation, but I can say for certainty that Satan will try to use such a situation to take control over us.  The IYF students were able to overcome the power of Satan because they were filled with the heart of God.  That is the message intended in the photo commentary.  And that is what IYF is all about.
